it pays

Today was one of the longest days I’ve had in a while. First things first, I had a date this morning with my sister, and as it happened, it got canceled. Very sad. We had planned to do our posting together this morning, and celebrate old times. Although she couldn’t make it, nonetheless I still had to get it done. So I did, and then I began work. Work includes QA testing for a nationwide product that must be completed before this Sunday, research on options reducing business expenses, corresponding with programmers, companies, potential employees, and naturally, FedEx, among other things. I had my own personal tasks to attend to aside from my work, and so things were busy as you can imagine.

Between breakfast and lunch I worked, hard. I also did my Esperanto lessons for the day, and surprise surprise! I am now finished with my first course – that’s ten lessons including vocabulary, grammar, and reading tests. I am very glad to have the basics down now, and very excited to start the second course.

Between lunch and dinner I meant to walk to Dilworth coffee shop with my sister, but as we were about to leave it began to rain. Just our luck. So we stayed home and made me a frappuccino and some amazing pumpkin oat bars, and played speed scrabble. It was so much fun. Afterwards I finished up my work (or at least as much as possible) and cleaned up my workspace. While i was at it, I took some time to spiff up the corner of the office which, for about a year or two now, has been a heaping mess of cables, CDs, video cards, paperwork, coupons, screws and twist ties, and garbage. It was overwhelming and gross. However, after an hour of hard and dusty work, I managed to fill two new cd cases, a jar of screws, a box of twist ties, and a file folder for the papers. It was well worth it. The entire workspace looks incredible, and so clean. The end result was double pay this week which was very encouraging.
The main point is that it pays to do the extra work. Go the extra mile, do that hard task you’ve been putting off for weeks, and make it worth it. Don’t do a poor job of it, do the best you can!

learning –> learning

School. It seems like I am always doing school! I was recently pondering this statement, and thought of this quote by one of my favorite authors:

We do not do our school to graduate, but rather, we graduate so that we can put our schooling to use.

So true. Lots of people say that they can’t wait till they’re done with school, but in my opinion, we aren’t graduating so that we don’t have to do our school anymore, we’re graduating because we can finally use it. As we go through each grade, we are learning more, based on what we learned previously, and so we will continue. I am under the impression that we will never stop learning – I don’t really want to stop, because the more I know, the less I don’t know.

a stone that is dropped in the water

In poetry today I was given my first assignment – the simple task of couplets. A list of pairs provided the perfect setting for what i came up with:

At the water’s edge I stood,
Among a green and leafy wood.

I held as sin, a symbolic stone
Which, to the water, would be thrown.

Then to the heavens rose my plea,
“Oh L-rd!” I cried, “Forgive thou me!”

And to be honest, I am quite proud of it. :-) I especially thought it was very apropos at this time of year to be given those words! Words which seemed destined to be used for something I experienced this year like no other.

happenings and flapawings

What’s going on? I’ll tell you. Life has begun. School started back up, as did choir, which I am excluded from this year – sadly. I’ll miss it. Several people have been texting, emailing me, or calling me to tell me how much they miss me, which makes me feel very loved. If ya’ll are reading this, you have no idea how meaningful it is to feel missed! Thank you so much for your sweet words and lovely thoughts. I miss you too!!! :-D

So now that I’m doing school for what seems like *all day*, whenever I have an extra breath, I’m working for my dad, which is fine with me, but it doesn’t leave a lot of extra time for extra-curricular activities such as: walking, singing, playing guitar+piano, writing, etc. I miss the free time, to be sure, but I also love the rush, the busyness of it all. It feels like I never stop moving, like I’m doing something with every minute of my day, from 5:30 to 10:00 I’m in a constant spin of events. Good thing, since I’m striving not to be idle (“she does not eat the bread of idleness”) this year, or rather, this *coming* year, which starts this week! So happy new year in advance! :-) Wish me luck, since I have a lot of changing to do with this new year. As tradition has it, I’ve made a lot of resolutions – more mental than visible, but I intend to write them down some time just so I can hold myself accountable, and to check myself at the halfway point. Good luck to all of you who are doing the same, and have a great year!!

Oh and before I forget, my Esperanto is going FANTASTIC! Oh my goodness, I totally encourage everyone to try it out, it only takes about 150 hours to equal 1500 hours of English! How amazing is that? Yeah, it’s incredible. So I’m using lernu.net and it’s really great – one of the best programs I’ve ever used. Very user-friendly, so if you’re interested, check it out! It’s completely free of charge!!

As for me, I’ve still been hard at work with SocialVibe, in case ya’ll are keeping up with them at all – you’ll notice we’re making great progress on the sidebar of my blog: great numbers people! Thanks for helping! I know we are all making a huge difference, and that’s worth a toast, so raise a glass to all of us next time we pop the cork! Congrats!!
